## Dimensional Analysis

Dimensional Analysis is a form of conversion used when a computer or calculator is not available. First, you draw a ladder-like set of lines, which are shown in black above. If you are converting miles to centimeters, for example, you would draw four vertical lines for each unit you have to convert. In the first blank on the top, write your original measurement (14 miles). Always keep the same units diagonal from each other. Next to the miles, write the next unit you are converting to, which is feet. On the bottom, write one mile, and on top, write how many feet are in one mile. Next to that, write how many inches are in a foot, and next to that, write how many centimeters are in an inch.
